01

The breif

Demonstrate several potential future (future defined as 2025 and beyond) scenarios where AI is used within the health and social care sectors. Within the scenarios, articulate the risks, issues and opportunities presented by AI, and the practical steps and decisions required to enable the scenario.

With AI and healthcare in mind, we decided this project needed to be more narrow and have a focus. Therefore, we decided to look at healthcare through the lens on women’s health and more specifically, Menopause.

02

Purpose

In healthcare, Menopause is often overlooked and not enough light and attention is given to the new stage of a women’s life. We decided that we wanted to dedicate our project on Healthcare on Menopause, in particular black women’s experience of menopause as their voices are still underrepresented despite growing conversation around menopause.

We set out to build a digital service which utilises emerging technologies such as AI, AR and more or none to help those going through menopause have a joyful experience.

Phase 1

Create a short (5-6 mins)film that identifies problem areas and opportunities for design within the theme of ‘the joys of menopause’.

Phase 2

Using the problems areas and opportunities gathered in Phase 1 to design a product or service that responds to the project theme.

Phase 3

Launch film and a ‘minimal viable service’ at an COMUZI ran-event in October.

Phase 1

The film

Dear Menopause (DM)  is a 5-10 minute documentary that uncovers the topic of menopause and its effects on women. This short film captures 3 women all in different stages of menopause that reflect on their relationship with it. Each women* will allow us to know their thoughts and reactions to entering this new stage of their womanhood and how it has impacted their sense of self. Whether they’ve had any joys along the way and any challenges they’ve encountered. What their relationships have been like with doctors and what approaches they’ve taken, whether they’ve embarked on a holistic route or a western practitioner. Dear Menopause will also include an expert/professional l to give us their experience with assisting those who are on their  menopause journey. This documentary explores some of the experiences women face when having menopause and takes a glimpse into any joys that may come with all in hopes to see whether there are any opportunities that the future of AI could help with.

Logo

We wanted to include different types of flower to help convey the motion of softness, nature, growth and beauty that every women holds. Through our research, whenever you look at words relating to a women's anatomy, such as womb* or yoni*, it is often illustrated through the use of flowers, in particular roses, and more specifically often times the Charity Rose.

04 Typography

The font’s used for the Dear Menopause logo was PP Hatton and PP Acma

Phase 2

The Prototype

Through two ideation sessions, we used the film we created to gather insights from the stories told by the 4 women. These insights were used to finalise on our final concept, a Discovery platform. The Discovery Platform was set out to cover two areas, one area for women to network and share their own testimonials/stories to help each-other and create relationships. The other area of the platform was dedicated to find professional help for their symptoms. This area would eventually house products for women to buy directly from the platform straight to their door.
